Pohick Bay (Gunston Cove)

August 4th, 2009 by Jeff Talbott · No Comments

Starting on around July 7, 2009 a large algae bloom has been going on in the Pohick Bay embayment.   Our continuous monitoring sonde has observed over 80% of the pHs values greater than 9 S.U.  for a three week period which has ended somewhere around July 26, 2009.

On August 3, 2009 DEQ observed large SAV beds at the mouth of Pohick Bay.   At this time they are the largest I have seen them in recent years.  On the downside the upper embayment SAV beds have been slow to come back this year.
